THE NATIVE PRESENTS: ROOTS VOL. 1: “ROCK, WAR AND FUNK”

The Native arrives at Whitespace, Lagos to showcase its first audiovisual exhibition in celebration of Nigerian pre and post war music.

For The Native’s debut exhibition under ROOTS, an audiovisual showcase centred around West Africa’s rich musical history, I assisted with the research of the exhibition’s muse years which spanned from 1960 to 1979.

Curated and edited by Oyinkan Dada and Edwin Okolo, my research materialised as an interactive timeline of Nigeria’s pre and post wartime music including a reconstructed display of a 60s suburban teenager’s room, as well as other pop-culture emblems and rare original pieces.
